My Travel Bucket List

January 9, 2016

Pneumonia is no fun. I’m feeling stir crazy, but I know better than to leave the house. Instead, I’ll leave home in my mind, looking for photos of all of the places I’d rather be right now. This got me thinking about putting together a travel bucket list: all of the specific, strange and amazing places I’d love to check out someday. It’s yet another reason to win this ever-growing Powerball jackpot, which has got to be around $800MILLION by now.

Surprisingly, a lot of these places are pretty attainable. People go to these places all the time. I COULD actually go to these places, fairly inexpensively, even. I just never take enough time off from work for a vacation. Maybe a Bucket List is the motivation I need to actually make time to go see the world.

Have you been to these places? Are they worthy of Bucket List status?

Marika’s Travel Bucket List
(In no particular order)

1. South Korea

The Motherland. The last time I was there I was far too young to remember. I wanna meet family I’ve never known. I wanna get a feel for that crazy technology and hectic pace of a city like Seoul.

2. Bunny Island, Japan

An island overtaken by thousands of tame bunnies descendants of nuclear war testing? Sounds like a good time to me.

3. Seattle, WA

Specifically to see Bruce Lee’s gravesite and Jimi Hendrick’s museum. And for seafood. And fresh flower markets. All of this gleefully flooding my Instagram feed.

4. Cuba

I saw recently that CheapCaribbean.com now offers a planned and structured 8 day trip to Cuba starting around $5k per person. Going someplace where time stands still in the 1950s sounds super cool to me. I’m picturing Latin Jazz clubs and people rolling around in 57 Chevys, color everywhere.

5. Iceland

My bestie is from Iceland and I’m dying to crash her next trip. I’ve gotta see some Northern Lights and soak in that beautiful Blue Lagoon.

6. Marfa, Texas

An artsy town with strange unexplainable lights…that is so “me.” I’m not even sure where Marfa is in the scheme of Texas geography, but I bet it’s worth the drive.

7. Sanibel Island, Florida

This lazy town rests on an island virtually composed of seashells. I’ve read that shells wash ashore by the thousands every day. Time to start a collection.

8. Disney

I’ve never been. Does this mean my childhood was incomplete? I just want some mouse ears.

9. Hawaii

People always think my husband is Hawaiian. I wonder how well he’d blend with actual Hawaiians. I’m dying to see plumerias in real life. Mmm..Spam musubi and legit shaved ice are calling for me.

10. The Broad museum, Los Angeles

I’ve never seen more magical photos than those people have been taking in the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored room at this museum. I think every visitor gets something like 45 full seconds to stand alone in the mirrored bliss before having to leave. That bliss needs to be in my bucket list.

11. Redwood National State Park

I don’t think I’m capable of visualizing just how tall and big those Redwood trees are without seeing them with my own eyes. Therefore, I must go.

What places make it onto your Travel Bucket List? What should I add to mine? Would love to hear about your travels.
